🔧 Technical: Personalisation trigger
All personalisation is driven by Shopify customer tags + order history, passed to the Liquid theme via {% if customer %} blocks. Shopify's customer object gives us: customer.orders, customer.tags, and line_item.product.handle from order history. We build a "routine_state" object in a <script> tag on page load that maps purchased product handles to the 4 routine stages. Klaviyo's on-site JS can also pass segment data (e.g., "kit_buyer", "partial_routine") for real-time rendering. No app or middleware needed — this is native Shopify + theme code.
Welcome back, Sarah
Your routine is halfway there
You've started with Cleanse and Activate — here's what's missing to complete your Clarity routine.
📐 Personalised Hero — Partial Routine
The hero dynamically reflects progress. "Halfway there" is calculated from 2/4 stages completed. The headline creates a completion gap — a well-documented psychological driver (Zeigarnik effect). The sub-copy names the specific stages they own, building recognition and reinforcing that we know their routine. This replaces the generic "Find My Routine" hero entirely for logged-in partial-routine customers.

📐 Routine Completion Map — The core personalisation block
This is the money section. Each of the 4 routine stages is a card. Owned products show with green checkmarks, product name, and purchase date. Missing products show as dashed-border silhouettes with a "+" icon that becomes red on hover. The progress ring (2/4) creates completion motivation. The CTA at the bottom bundles the missing products with a set-price incentive. Key UX: tapping a missing product card goes directly to that PDP, pre-tagged as "recommended for your routine". The bundle CTA adds both to cart at set pricing. This is the visual execution of your "routine gap" strategy.
🔧 Technical: Routine state mapping
Product handles mapped to stages: cleanser → Cleanse, nightly-serum/brightly-serum → Activate, moisturiser → Hydrate, daily-spf → Protect. The mapping is a simple JSON object in the theme. Shopify's customer.orders loop checks line_item.product.handle against this map. If a customer bought products from BOTH Clarity and Radiance ranges (e.g., Clarity cleanser + Radiance serum), we show both routines with a note. Purchase date comes from order.created_at. The "set price" discount is handled via a Shopify Script or automatic discount rule that triggers when both missing products are in cart.
💡
Tip: Complete your routine for better results
The 4-step system works synergistically. Each product enhances the others, which is why completing the routine delivers 2-3x better results than using products individually.
💬 Proactive coaching tip
Subtle educational nudge that reinforces the routine completion strategy. Not pushy, just helpful context that validates their decision to complete the set.

Ready for the full routine?
You tried the Clarity Kit — here's what comes next to keep your results going long-term.
📐 Personalised Hero — Kit Buyer
This is the highest-value returning segment. They've trialled, they (likely) liked the results, and now they need to see the upgrade path. The hero headline assumes intent ("ready for") rather than asking permission. "Keep your results going" creates loss aversion — they've started seeing changes and don't want to lose them. The kit they bought (Clarity vs Radiance) is detected from order history.

📐 Next Step Block — Kit → Full-Size Conversion
The journey timeline is critical UX — it shows the customer they're at step 3 of 4, not at step 1. This acknowledges their investment and makes the next step feel like natural progression, not a new purchase decision. The product grid shows the SAME products they trialled but in full size, creating familiarity. The price cascade: £167 RRP → £141 set → £133.60 subscription. The subscribe option appears as a secondary line under the CTA, not as a separate step — reducing friction. This maps exactly to your retail → DTC moat: Sephora sells the £37 kit, only DTC sells the £141 set.
🔧 Technical: Kit detection
Shopify order history check: if line_item.product.handle contains "clarity-kit" or "radiance-kit", trigger this scenario. The full-size set recommendation is deterministic — Clarity Kit → Clarity Set, Radiance Kit → Radiance Set. If the customer purchased BOTH kits, show both upgrade paths in tabs. The "subscribe from £133.60" CTA links to the PDP with ?selling_plan pre-selected, so Skio's subscription widget is already toggled when they land.
📅
Your trial kit lasts 2 weeks — plan ahead
Most customers see initial improvements around week 3-4. Upgrading to full-size products now ensures no gaps in your routine as results start to show.
💬 Proactive coaching tip (Kit Buyer)
Creates urgency without pressure. Helps customer plan ahead and avoid the frustration of running out just as results start appearing.

Your routine is complete
You've got the full Clarity system. Now make it effortless — subscribe and never worry about running out.
📐 Personalised Hero — Full Routine, No Subscription
This customer has all 4 products but is reordering manually. The hero celebrates their completion ("your routine is complete" — dopamine hit) then immediately pivots to the next logical step: subscribe. "Never worry about running out" addresses the #1 subscription value prop for this segment: convenience, not price. They've already committed to spending the full amount — the savings are a bonus, not the hook.

📐 Subscription Savings Calculator
This is personalised maths, not generic marketing. We KNOW this customer spends £167 per routine cycle (from their order history). So we can show them exactly how much they'd save: £33.40 per delivery, £133+ per year (assuming 4 deliveries on 12-week cycle). The side-by-side comparison makes the savings visceral. The green "Subscribe" CTA is deliberately NOT red — it's green to signal "save money" rather than "buy now." The perks grid reinforces flexibility (critical given churn data showing 27% cancel for frequency mismatch). "Skip, pause, cancel anytime" is the most important line on this block.
🔧 Technical: Dynamic savings calculation
The savings calculator reads from the customer's actual last order value (not a static £167). This means if they bought 3 products for £120, the comparison shows £120 vs £96 (at 20% off). The yearly savings multiply by estimated deliveries: if they reorder every ~10 weeks (detectable from order frequency), that's ~5 per year. Shopify's customer.orders collection + metafield storage for routine_value. The "Subscribe to My Routine" CTA creates a Skio subscription with all 4 products pre-loaded at the correct frequency — one click, not four separate subscriptions.
⭐
Consistency is key to long-term results
Flawless365 subscribers see 40% better results at 12 weeks. Never running out means your skin stays on track, and you save 20% on every order.
💬 Proactive coaching tip (Complete Routine Owner)
Positions subscription as the smart choice for maintaining results, not just a discount. The "40% better results" stat drives home the consistency benefit.

Your routine is on autopilot

📐 Personalised Hero — Active Subscriber
This customer needs NO selling. The homepage becomes a relationship management tool. The hero celebrates their subscriber status and provides the most useful info: when the next delivery arrives. "On autopilot" reinforces the convenience value. The sub-copy with "18 days" creates anticipation rather than anxiety (vs "you'll be charged in 18 days"). This is subtle but important — framing around delivery, not payment.

📐 Subscriber Dashboard — Homepage as utility
For active subscribers, the homepage becomes a lightweight portal. The dark status card feels premium — like checking a luxury flight status. Quick actions surface the 4 most common subscriber needs: (1) add a product to the next box (cross-sell), (2) change delivery date (flexibility), (3) skip next (prevents cancellation for "too much product"), (4) refer a friend (growth). Note: "Skip next" is DELIBERATELY prominent. Making it easy to skip prevents the #1 cancel reason (frequency mismatch). The referral banner is the primary growth lever for this segment — they love the brand, they just need a nudge to share it.
🔧 Technical: Subscriber data
Subscription status and next delivery date from Skio's API via the Skio Shopify widget or a custom Liquid snippet that reads the Skio customer portal data. Quick actions link to the Skio customer portal (manage.skio.com/dr-sams) with deep links to specific actions. "Add a product" opens a curated product picker within Skio's portal. The referral programme integrates with your existing referral tool (or Klaviyo referral if you build it). All of this can be rendered conditionally: {% if customer.tags contains 'active_subscriber' %}.

📐 Add-on Recommendations — Cross-sell for existing customers
This section appears for ALL returning customer scenarios. It shows products OUTSIDE the core 4-step routine — eye cream, lip treatment, body products, seasonal items. Each card shows the standard price AND the Flawless365 price, creating a constant subscription incentive. For non-subscribers, it says "£30.40 with F365" — reinforcing the savings they're missing. For subscribers, it shows the price they'd actually pay. The "Add to your next box" mechanic (for subscribers) is the highest-converting cross-sell in subscription commerce.
